TCU Set for Sunday Doubleheader Against UTPA
Dec. 13, 2013
FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU women's basketball team returns to action at 4 p.m., on Sunday following a 10-day layoff to play host to Texas-Pan American at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum. The contest is part of a doubleheader with the men's basketball program, which is also taking on UTPA at 1 p.m. Both games will be aired live on FOX Sports Southwest.
As part of the Holiday Hoops promotion, tickets are priced at just $5 and fans can use a men's basketball ticket to gain free admission into the women's contest that follows.
The Horned Frogs last played on Dec. 4, posting a 60-52 victory over Stephen F. Austin to improve to 5-3 overall this season.
Junior guard Natalie Ventress led three Horned Frogs in double-figure scoring with a season-high 17 points, while senior center Latricia Lovings nearly posted a triple-double with 11 points, a career-best 10 blocks and eight rebounds.
Lovings' 10-block performance marked the fourth-most blocks in a single game in program history and was the first points-blocks double-double since 2003 and only the third in school history, joining TCU great Sandora Irvin. Lovings currently tops the Big 12 in blocks (3.8 bpg) and ranks fourth nationally.
Sophomore guard Zahna Medley tallied 16 points against Stephen F. Austin to hit double digits for the sixth time this season and the 25th time in her career. The Springfield, Ill., native is currently second in the Big 12 in 3-pointers per game (2.8) and fourth in the league in scoring (17.5 ppg).
Fans can also listen to the radio broadcast live on KTCU 88.7 and Frog Vision with Jeff Williams and Jeff Lewis on the call.

UTPA has excelled on defense through the season's first eight games, limiting the opposition to under 56 points per contest and 33-percent shooting from the field while averaging 10.0 steals and forcing over 23 turnovers per game.
The Broncs are led by freshman guard Shawnte' Goff, who is currently averaging 10.4 points per game, while junior forward Brittany Bush leads UTPA on the glass with 7.9 rebounds to go with 9.1 points per contest. UTPA features depth, as 10 Broncs are currently seeing at least 10 minutes of action per game.
The two teams will face off for only the third time since 1998 and the seventh time in Daniel-Meyer Coliseum, where TCU owns a 5-1 record against the Broncs. The Horned Frogs posted a 73-37 victory last season against UTPA.
ZERO TO ONE HUNDRED
Not only would Medley become just the 12th player in program history to reach the triple-digit mark, but she would also be the second fastest to reach the milestone in school history behind TCU's all-time 3-point leader, Jill Sutton (1997-01). With one 3-pointer, Medley would hit the milestone in her 39th game, while Sutton achieved the feat in her 38th contest at TCU.
Medley set the TCU freshman record a year ago with 77 total 3-pointers and has started the 2013-14 season on a tear, ranking second in the Big 12 with 2.8 treys per game. The Springfield, Ill., native has connected on four or more trifectas in four of the eight games this season.
LT SAYS "NO"
Lovings has racked up the second-most blocks in the nation since the start of the 2012-13 season with 139 total rejections, just one behind Iona's Sabrina Jeridore.
With 228 total blocks in her career, Lovings ranks second in program history behind only TCU great Sandora Irvin's 480 swats.
Lovings has racked up 13 single-game performances of five or more blocks in her career, including a career-best 10 rejections in TCU's last game against Stephen F. Austin, marking the fourth-highest total in school history.
The Fort Worth native's 10 blocks are the second-highest total in the country this season behind Jeriodore's 13, after posting the second-best block performance in the NCAA a year ago with nine against Texas Tech.
Fans can also take part in the Holiday Hoops promotion with $5 general admission tickets for contests during Dec. 15-Jan. 8, where the Horned Frogs will face Texas-Pan American (Dec. 15), Abilene Christian (Dec. 18), Sam Houston State (Dec. 20), Prairie View A&M (Dec. 28), Iowa State (Jan. 2) and Kansas (Jan. 8).
