Horned Frogs Make History

FORT WORTH, Texas – The TCU men’s swimming and diving team made history on Wednesday night, defeating cross-town rival SMU, 177.5-122.5 at the TCU Recreation Center Natatorium. It marked the Horned Frogs first victory over the Mustangs in dual meet action since the programs inception.
The Horned Frogs put on a solid performance, winning 11 of 16 events. Sophomore Adam Szilagyi led TCU with three individual titles and a 200-yard medley relay win. The Szazhalombatta, Hungary native won the 100-yard backstroke (49.64), the 200-yard backstroke (1:48.81) and the 200-yard IM (1:55.54). Szilagyi also combined with junior Cooper Robinson and sophomores Ford Story and Anthony McMurry for a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay (1:32.22) to open the meet. McMurry and Story also added individual wins – McMurry in the 200-yard freestyle (1:41.66) and Story in the 100-yard breaststroke (57.02).
Junior Thor Stenfjord won the 1000-yard freestyle (9:37.65) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:36.88). Senior Luiz Azarias won the 200-yard butterfly (1:50.69) and the 100-yard butterfly (50.91). Freshman Garrett Hills also added a win in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:06.23) in his first collegiate competition in the event.
Junior Ricky Bradley paced the Horned Frogs in diving competition, tallying a 301.65 from the 1-meter board and 340.13 on the 3-meter board for a pair of third-place finishes.
The TCU men improve to (1-1) on the season and return to action beginning Nov. 21 when they travel to College Station, Texas for the three-day Aggie Invitational.
