Volleyball heads to Colorado State and Wyoming
Nov. 15, 2005 FORT WORTH, Texas -- After a short rest, the TCU volleyball team heads to Fort Collins, Colo., to battle Colorado State on Tuesday and Laramie, Wyo., Wednesday to finish the regular season. In their last meeting with Colorado State, the Frogs fell behind 2-0 before storming back and winning the match in five games, snapping Colorado State's 72-match win streak when leading 2-0. The Frogs were led by sophomore Talaya Whitfield who tallied 16 digs and 14 kills for her fifth double-double of the season. Colorado State is currently 16-7 overall and is coming off of a 3-2 defeat over nationally-ranked BYU and defending conference regular-season champion Utah. The Rams are led by senior outside-hitter Casey Bauer and middle-blocker Dre Downs. Wyoming sits at 9-15 overall and 4-9 in MWC play. The Cowgirls are currently led by sophomore outside-hitter Rachel Smith, who is averaging 3.92 kills and 2.39 digs per game. In their first meeting, TCU downed Wyoming in three games with LeMeita Smith pounding 15 kills (.452 attack percentage) and Whitfield totaling 22 digs. TCU is currently 15-15 overall and 3-11 in the MWC. The Frogs are currently led by Smith who is averaging 2.29 kills per game and Whitfield, who is second in the conference in digs with 4.38 per game. The conference road trip is the season finale for the Frogs. The team will head to Las Vegas, Nev., next Tuesday to compete in the Mountain West Conference tournament.
