Hampton voted Mountain West Conference Player of the Week
Oct. 10, 2005 TCU setter Nirelle Hampton was selected as Mountain West Conference Volleyball Player of the Week the league office announced today. She was selected to the award after posting the first triple-double of any Mountain West player this season. Hampton, a Gainesville, Fla., native, led the Horned Frogs to their first-ever MWC league match victory over Air Force last week. In the four-game victory, she tallied 11 kills on 16 attacks (.500 hitting efficiency), 15 digs and 41 assists for her first career triple-double and the first triple-double by a MWC player this season. Hampton averaged 10.25 assists per game vs. the Falcons, helping TCU to a .261 team hitting percentage for the match. She followed with a career-high 53 assists to go along with nine digs and six kills in a five-game loss to New Mexico last Saturday. She also collected three service aces and a block assist vs. the Lobos. The Frogs trailed 2-0 before they made a spirited comeback to take the match to a fifth game. Unfortunately, the team fell 15-12. On the week, Hampton averaged 10.44 assists, 2.67 digs and 1.89 kills per game, while hitting .455 (17-4-29). She also totaled three service aces and two block assists. Hampton currently ranks fifth in the conference in service aces per game (0.43) and sixth in assists (10.13). She is also third on the team in hitting percentage (.239). For the season, she is averaging 10.13 assists, 1.86 digs and 1.42 kills per game. Hampton is second on the Frogs in service aces with 30.
