FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU volleyball team hits the road this weekend for a pair of Mountain West Conferences matches. At 12-2, the Frogs are off to the best start in school history. An exciting come-from-behind victory over Wyoming a week ago gave the Frogs a 1-0 mark in conference play. TCU will square off against Air Force on Friday night followed by a Saturday tilt against Colorado State. Match times are slated for 8 p.m. (CST).
A Look Back At Last Week:
The Frogs went 2-0 last week to move their record to 12-2 on the season. More importantly, they rebounded from a 0-2 deficit to defeat Wyoming in their Mountain West Conference opener. A 3-0 sweep of Texas State got the week started on the right foot.
In the two matches, the Frogs hit .264 as a squad, led by Emily Allen's .529 (20-2-34) attack percentage. Anna Vaughn averaged 3.25 kills per game and tied with Kourtney Edwards for the blocking lead with seven. Lauren Otto dropped in 12 aces in the eight games, including a career-high seven against Wyoming. Nirelle Hampton continued her strong play as she averaged 10.38 assists per game, helping the Frogs average nearly 15 kills a game. Calli Corley paced the Frogs defensively, picking up five digs a set.
The TCU vs. Air Force Series
TCU leads the all-time series, 3-2. Prior to becoming conference foes in the Mountain West, TCU and Air Force met on the court as members of the Western Athletic Conference. Both teams have come away with two victories on their home court. TCU's edge in the series comes courtesy of a 3-1 win in Las Vegas last year during the Mountain West Conference Tournament.
The TCU vs. Colorado State Series
Colorado State leads the all-time series, 5-1. Just like all members of the MWC, the two were conference foes in the WAC from 1996-98. The Frogs lone win in the series was an exciting come-from-behind win in Fort Worth last season. TCU had trailed two games in the match before coming back to win, 3-2.
