FORT WORTH, Texas -- Men's golfer Julien Brun and women's volleyball player Sarah Joeckel were named TCU Athletes of the Week for their recent performances.
In his first collegiate event, Brun shot a 1-under-par 71 on Monday to conclude the two-day Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate tournament with a three-round total of -8. The Antibes, France, native also shot rounds of 70 and 67 the previous day. The individual tournament title was the 24th by one of head coach Bill Montigel's disciples in as many years in Fort Worth. As a whole, the Frogs finished second with an overall score of 864.
Brun and TCU look to continue their success Sept. 16-17 in Farmington, N.Y. at The McLaughlin tournament.
Joeckel's outstanding play in the SMU Doubletree Invitational keyed the Frogs to a three-game sweep of the weekend and a 6-0 start on the season. The pride of Arlington, Texas, earned Libero of the Tournament honors, leading the team in digs in all three matches to get her third 20-dig match this season. Joeckel was also one of four players to tally 30 digs in a match in team history in the opening 3-1 win against the Mustangs.
Joeckel and the Frogs hit the hardwood again on Sept. 9 when they begin the three-day Villanova Classic in Philadelphia.
