Aug. 19, 2007 FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU Horned Frog volleyball team defeated the Alumni squad, 4-0 (30-28, 30-9, 30-28, 30-25) Sunday afternoon at the University Rec Center. The varsity squad put together some strong performances against a very talented Alumni team. Three Frogs reached double-digits in kills as Kourtney Edwards, Lauren Otto and LeMeita Smith all racked up 12 kills in the match. Loren Barry stole the show as she tallied a triple-double with 10 kills, 14 assists and a team-high 17 digs. The Alumni gave the Frogs a run for their money in the first game as they took a lead late into the contest, forcing the varsity squad to battle back. The varsity eventually rallied to come away with the 30-28 victory. Otto paced the Frogs with five kills in the set. The Alumni were led by Jennifer Cuca's four kills. Game two was all varsity as they led wire-to-wire and cruised to the 30-9 victory. Five kills from sophomore Kourtney Edwards set the tone offensively, while Barry racked up seven of her digs in game two to pace the Frogs defensively. TCU secured the victory, winning a close game three, 30-28. Again, the Alumni pushed the younger Frogs forcing them to battle through a close game. Stacy Olson found her defensive groove and racked up seven digs in the frame and Amy Atamanczuk Patterson pitched in with four kills. A team effort for the varsity helped them stay with the Alumni and eventually come away with the triumph. Even with the win fully in the varsity's grasp, the two teams locked horns in a fourth game which the varsity squad won by a 30-25 score. The newest Frogs, Christy Hudson and Irene Hester, each got significant playing time in the frame. Hudson picked up three kills, while Hester tallied two kills to go along with her game-high seven digs. There were a lot of good individual performances in the match for both sides. On the Alumni squad Cuca finished with 10 kills, nine digs, three aces and one block. Patterson also reached the 10-kill plateau and pitched in defensively with eight digs and two blocks. Stacy Olson led the squad with 14 digs followed closely by Skye Tacker with 12. Tori Barlow Rubinson racked up 23 assists in the match. On the varsity side, Nirelle Hampton tallied nine kills, 41 assists and nine digs. Calli Corley pitched in with 14 digs and Katelyn Blackwood added 11. Devon Kirk totaled three kills and three digs in the match. The Frogs' regular season kicks off on the road in Florida on Aug. 24. TCU will take part in the FSU Invitational in Tallahassee, Fla. Its first match of the regular season will be against UNC Asheville at 11 a.m.
