Otto Named Assistant Volleyball Coach
July 31, 2013
“Lauren Otto was a solid six rotation outside and a part of a senior group that left their mark on TCU volleyball. Being part of the best team ever in TCU history, I expect her to bring that same kind of dedication and competitiveness to her position as assistant coach,” Lewis says. “Her ties with great local clubs and high schools will have prepared her to be successful in this position.”
Otto joins the Horned Frogs after spending the last three years as a high school coach in Texas. Otto had stints at Arlington Sequin, Centennial and Richland High School.
“I am thrilled to join the TCU volleyball program and athletics family in a new capacity,” Otto says. “As a student athlete, my experience at TCU was rich in so many ways. Earning a prestigious TCU undergraduate degree while contributing to a NCAA second round finish was amazing. I am excited to help ensure that current and future student athletes have an equally great experience. I am looking forward to working with Prentice and Jason (Tanaka) and having the chance to evolve as a coach. Competing in the Big 12 Conference and having the opportunity to influence the future of my alma mater in a positive way is a dream come true. I'm fired up to get started.”
On the court, Otto was a four-year letterwinner for the Horned Frogs from 2006-09. Otto played in 117 matches and appeared in 427 sets, while also helping lead the team to its first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance in 2009. The Arlington native finished her career with 1,126 kills and 1,115 digs and both marks still rank sixth all-time in program history. Otto amassed 1,324 total points in her career for the third spot all-time, while also posting 37 double-doubles which is good for fourth in school history.
She began her coaching career at Texas Advantage Volleyball Club in 2005. This past year as a coach with the TAV 17-Blue, Otto helped lead the team to a silver medal in the 17 USA Division at the Big South Qualifier, which qualified them for the USAV Nationals in June. For the last two years, Otto has assisted at the TAV College Coaches Camp by implementing drills and teaching skills to camp attendees.
Outside of club volleyball, Otto began working TCU summer camps in 2007 and worked every summer through 2013. In addition, Otto was also the director and head coach of the Benbrook YMCA Summer Volleyball Camp in 2007 and 2008, where she created instruction for week long camp of basic volleyball skills.
Otto graduated from TCU in December 2010 with a bachelor’s degree in communications studies.
