Sunstrum Heads To Europe For Global Challenge

FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU junior outside hitter Sloane Sunstrum becomes the second Horned Frog to head overseas this summer to take part in an international competition in conjunction with BIP/USA. She is a member of the BIP/USA National Development Team. Associate Head Coach Jason Tanaka is serving as an assistant coach on the squad.
The team trained in Belgrade, Serbia in preparation for the 7th annual Global Challenge that began on July 17. While in Serbia they trained with and played against the Vizura Club Team, one of the countries top club programs. While in Croatia, they will compete against six foreign teams, including the Czech Republic Junior National Team and club teams from Italy, Slovenia, Montenegro, Croatia and Romania.
The squad is made up of 11 players from nine universities around the country. Utah's Beth Launiere is serving as the team's head coach.
Sunstrum is coming off a solid sophomore campaign that saw her average 1.09 kills per game and 1.20 digs per game. She appeared in 28 matches and made 13 starts.
