Oct. 15, 2011
Colorado State 3, TCU 0 TCU
The Rams jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first set and never looked back. The Frogs were able to keep it close early on kills from Igodan, Hester and Holland, but a 6-1 run by Colorado State put the Frogs in a 15-7 hole, forcing a timeout.
TCU fought back to within six, twice, with a 5-3 run of its own. Munce started the rally with a kill and an Igodan solo block made it 15-9. An attacking error by the Rams saw the Frogs trailing by just six, but it was not to be as Colorado State closed out the 25-14 set one win with a 7-2 run.
Colorado State opened up the second set with a devastating 8-3 run, forcing the Frogs to call an early timeout. The break worked as the Frogs climbed back to within four, 13-9, on kills from Raines, Hester and Sunstrum.
The Rams had an answer for the Frogs mini-run as they went on a 6-2 run of their own. Raines stopped the run with a kill then Holland and Burleson teamed on a block to give the Frogs some momentum. Burleson and Raines blasted kills to pull within six, 22-16, but it wasn't enough as Kelsey Snider gave the Rams a 2-0 match lead, locking up the 25-17 set two win.
Back-to-back kills from Sunstrum and Raines tied the third set at three, but that was as close as the Frogs would get as the Rams went on a 12-2 run to take a commanding 15-5 lead.
TCU put together a late rally on kills by Raines and Sunstrum and a solo block by Hester to make it 22-14. The Rams closed out the victory with a 3-1 run to win the third set 25-15.
The Horned Frogs (17-4, 4-3 MW) return home for a three-match homestand beginning Friday night against New Mexico. First serve against the Lobos is set for 7 p.m. at the University Rec Center.
