Nov. 21, 2007

FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU women's tennis head coach Jefferson Hammond announced the signing of Kayla Duncan to a National Letter of Intent on Wednesday (Nov. 21). Duncan is one of two prep players to sign with TCU for the fall of 2008.

"Kayla has shown that she can beat the best juniors that tennis has to offer," said Hammond. "We are very excited about her coming to TCU. She has a great inner-drive that has and will serve her team well."

Duncan, from Winston-Salem, N.C., earned a No. 6 combined ranking in the USTA Southern section and was tabbed a five-star recruit by tennisrecruiting.net. As a member of the Southern team, Duncan won the 16's Intersectional, defeating Southern California in the finals.

Duncan reached the round of 32 in singles play at the U.S. Claycourts and claimed the National Open Doubles title in June of 2007. At Reynolds High School, Duncan was a doubles finalist at the state championship her freshman year and won the state doubles title her sophomore season. Duncan was also named the team MVP both years. Last season, Duncan helped lead Statesville Christian to the 2A state title.

"Kayla is a thinker on the court and picks apart her opponent with appropriate tactics," Hammond said. "She is also a player who is strong in the classroom and of strong character. We are really happy to have had the chance to sign her at TCU."
