Women's tennis prepares for Wilson/ITA Regional Championships

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU women's tennis team will compete at the 2007 Wilson/ITA Regional Championships in Lubbock, Texas, beginning Friday, Oct. 19 thru Tuesday, Oct. 23.
Twenty regional teams will compete in the event, including Baylor, Houston, Lamar, LSU, Louisiana-Lafayette, North Texas, Rice, Sam Houston State, SMU, Stephen F. Austin, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, TCU, Texas State, Texas Tech, Texas-Arlington, Texas-El Paso, Texas-Pan American, and Texas-San Antonio.
The tournament consists of a 64-player singles qualifying draw, a 64-player singles main draw and a 64-team doubles draw. The singles qualifying draw and doubles draw will begin on Friday, followed by singles main draw action beginning at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
Macall Harkins, Idunn Hertzberg, Nina Munch-Soegaard, Kewa Nichols and Anna Sydorska will all compete in the singles main draw for the Horned Frogs. Harkins, Sydorska and Munch-Soegaard are seeded No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5, respectively.
TCU freshman Maria Babanova will begin in the singles qualifying draw on Friday as the No. 3 seed. The doubles teams of Harkins and Sydorska, Hertzberg and Andrea Morgado, and Munch-Soegaard and Nichols will also begin play on Friday. The duo of Harkins and Sydorska is the top seed in the draw.
TCU highlighted the Wilson/ITA Regional Championships last year in Fort Worth, as the tandem of Ana Cetnik and Sydorska captured the doubles title. Cetnik also won the singles consolation championship.
