Junior Paty Aburto defeated Alison Bradley of Baylor University, 6-1, 6-1 in day one of the 2002 Omni Hotels Southwest Championships held today at the Bayard H.Friedman Tennis Center. Round two of the singles was postponed until Saturday, October, 19 due to inclement weather. Action will begin at 8:30 am with the first round of doubles.
Junior Saber Pierce dropped a tough three game match to Svenja Fuhrig of UTSA, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, while Karla Mancinas was defeated by Marina Chiarelli of Louisiana State, 6-1, 0-6, 6-3. Ani Longoni of Houston topped Ivonne Andrade, 2-6, 6-0, 6-3, in another three game battle.
Action continues Saturday through Monday at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. Finals are scheduled for Monday beginning at 9:00 a.m.
