FORT WORTH, Texas -- The TCU women's tennis team will send four of its members to California this weekend for the Cal Invitational in Berkeley. Gloriann Lopez, Lindsay McBride, Andrea Morgado and Anna Sydorska will compete in the event, which starts Friday and ends Sunday.
Lopez and Morgado reached the quarterfinals of the Baylor Invitational earlier in the month and hold records of 2-1 in singles play this fall. McBride is 1-2 after playing in the Mean Green Invitational last weekend. The Cal Invitational marks the first collegiate action for Sydorska.
The tournament includes two singles flights consisting of 32 players each. Sydorska plays Suzi Babos from Cal in the first round of the Gold Flight. Lopez, Morgado and McBride have first-round matches with Stefanie Ordoveza and Kristen Kummer of Saint Mary's (Calif.) and Tanja Markovic from North Carolina in the Blue Flight.
For doubles, a Gold and Blue Flight with 16 tandems each will be played. Lopez and Morgado, who are 1-1 together this fall, take on Duke's Tara Iyer and Jenny Zika in the first round in the Gold Flight. McBride and Sydorska face Jessica Shu and Christina Visico from Cal in the Blue Flight.
