TCU's Leimbach advances to quarterfinals
July 28, 2005 ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -- TCU women's tennis star Nicole Leimbach reached the quarterfinals of the Car City Hyundai Women's Tennis Classic on Thursday in St. Joseph, Mo. She was a 6-1, 6-0 winner in her round of 16 match versus Russian Alicia Pillay, who played previously at Tulsa University. Next up for Leimbach on Friday is the tournament's No. 2 seed Raquel Kops-Jones, formerly of the University of California at Berkeley. Kops-Jones teamed with Christina Fusano to win the 2003 NCAA Doubles Championship. The No. 8-seeded Leimbach topped Colleen Rielley from the United States on Wednesday in the round of 32 by scores of 6-2, 6-1. Leimbach will be a sophomore for the Horned Frogs in 2005-06. She played for Southern California her freshman year, earning Pac-10 Player of the Year honors and All-America status in singles.
