Munch-Soegaard continues run into semifinals
July 27, 2007 EVANSVILLE, Ind. - TCU women's tennis player Nina Munch-Soegaard won her third match in the main draw on Friday to advance to the semifinals of the Fifth Third Classic of Evansville.
The sophomore outlasted Maria-Fernanda Alvarez-Teran (BOL) 6-4, 2-6, 7-6(2) to make her first semifinal appearance in five pro circuit tournaments this summer. Down 5-1 in the third set, Munch-Soegaard fought back and saved two match points en route to clinching the match. Munch-Soegaard will face the winner of the quarterfinal match between No. 1 Sandy Gumulya and No. 5 Kimberly Couts on Saturday.
Munch-Soegaard is also in the semifinal round of doubles play with former TCU standout Helena Besovic. The duo's match between Nadja Gilchrist and Allie Will is currently suspended due to rain. Munch-Soegaard and Besovic have already claimed two doubles titles on the pro circuit this summer.
Besovic also advanced to the singles semifinal round on Friday with a victory over Courtney Vernon.
