Three Frogs appear in final Fila/ITA rankings
June 1, 2007 FORT WORTH, Texas - Three TCU women's tennis players finished the 2007 season ranked in the Fila/ITA individual poll released on Friday. Ana Cetnik, Nina Munch-Soegaard and Anna Sydorska all grabbed singles rankings, while Cetnik and Sydorska also finished with a national ranking in doubles.
The TCU women's program has only had three players finish in the final singles rankings once before, as three Frogs grabbed spots in the final poll last season. The Horned Frogs finished the season ranked No. 38.
Cetnik leads the women with a final singles ranking of No. 45. Cetnik recorded a dual singles record of 19-7 this spring and received a bid to the NCAA Individual Championships, where the senior knocked off No. 15 Riza Zalameda of UCLA in the opening round. Cetnik was also named to the All-MWC singles team after posting a perfect 10-0 record in conference play.
Sydorska closed out the season with a singles ranking of No. 91. The Lviv, Ukraine, native recorded a dual mark of 18-9 this season playing primarily at the top two positions for the Frogs. Sydorska earned a spot on the All-MWC team after posting a 6-3 record in conference play. The TCU sophomore ended the 2006 season with a final singles ranking of No. 110.
Munch-Soegaard finished the 2007 season with a national ranking of No. 109. Munch-Soegaard, who was named the Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Year, led the team with a 21-6 record at the top three singles positions. Munch-Soegaard was also named to the all-conference singles team after going 8-2 in MWC play.
Cetnik and Sydorska set a new TCU record as the duo finished the season with a doubles ranking of No. 3. The highest previous ranking at TCU was set in 1988, as Tory Plunkett and Rene Simpson finished No. 9.
The Frog tandem earned Doubles All-America honors this season after grabbing a No. 4 national seed at the NCAA Individual Championships, where the duo advanced to the semifinals. Cetnik and Sydorska went 13-5 this spring and 25-7 overall this season. Cetnik set a TCU single season record with 35 doubles victories, while Sydorska tied for second all-time with 34 wins.
