NCAA Tournament perspective with Gloriann Lopez
May 9, 2006
The TCU women's tennis team has begun preparation for the 2006 NCAA Tournament. After claiming the Mountain West Conference regular season and conference championships, the team will host the opening rounds of the NCAAs on May 12-13. The Horned Frogs will host Rice at 6 p.m. on Friday as their opening round match. Senior Gloriann Lopez is preparing for her tournament appearance and www.gofrogs.com will follow her over the next few weeks as the Frogs chase the NCAA Championship.
Right now, we are 21-6 and ranked 16th in the country. We are projected to do very well and we anticipate ourselves surpassing our own expectations. The entire women's team is excited to host the regional, and it is a unique and exhilarating experience for me especially since it is my senior year and I get to play on TCU's courts once more.
We had practice this weekend and we are doing a combination of team practice and individuals to prepare ourselves for this coming Friday and Saturday. We have begun night practice as well to acclimate our eyes and bodies to playing underneath the lights. It is quite a different experience practicing and, of course, playing at night. I cannot quite explain it, but I feel as if I am a gladiator in an arena!
