Three Frogs Selected For NCAA Singles and Doubles Championship
May 5, 2005 Fort Worth, Texas - The No. 18 TCU women's tennis team had three of its players selected to compete in the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championship, which will be held at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga., on May 23-28 following the team championships. Senior Story Tweedie-Yates, junior Helena Besovic and sophomore Ana Cetnik were among the 64 singles players and 32-doubles teams selected from around the country. The three players is the most that the Frogs have had competing in a single NCAA Championship in school history, as the previous high was two on three different occasions. The last time that TCU had two players compete in the event was in 2000 when Lucie Dvorakova and Daria Zoldakova were All-Americans in doubles. Last season, Paty Aburto, now a volunteer assistant with the Frogs, was the first TCU player to play in singles since 1988. Tweedie-Yates and Besovic were two of the four automatic qualifiers selected out of the Southwest Region to compete in the Singles Championship. Tweedie-Yates is the 14th ranked player in the country, as she is currently on a 16-match winning streak that has improved her overall record to 32-4 on the year. Meanwhile, Besovic was selected after she came in at No. 40 in the latest rankings. The First Team All-Conference USA selection has a team-leading 33 wins to just nine losses this season. Cetnik and Tweedie-Yates earned an at-large bid to compete in the 32-team doubles draw. The pair is currently ranked 29th in the country with a 19-2 overall record and they have won 13-of-their-last-14 matches. The complete brackets for the Singles and Doubles Championships will be announced following the NCAA Team Championships on May 22. The Frogs will travel to New Orleans, La., for the opening round of the NCAA Team Championships on Friday, May 13. TCU is set to square off with No. 44 LSU in the Round of 64 at the Goldring Tennis Center on the campus of Tulane University.
