TCU Remains At 18th In ITA Rankings

Fort Worth, Texas - The TCU women's tennis team remained at 18th in the final Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) regular season rankings that were released this morning. Over the course of the season, the Frogs have been in the top-20 in all but one week. The final rankings for the 2005 season will be released on June 3 following the NCAA Championships.
The ranking marks the first time in school history that TCU has been in the top-20 in the final regular season poll. Among the 20 teams, TCU is the only school that has never finished the regular season ranked in this elite group.
In singles, Story Tweedie-Yates moved up one spot to 14th in the nation. The Conference USA Player of the Year has won 16 consecutive matches this season to push her overall record to 32-4. Against ranked opponents, Tweedie-Yates has a 16-4 record, which includes victories over two in the top-10 in Aibika Kalsarieva of Kentucky and Nicole Leimbach of USC.
Junior Helena Besovic jumped ten spots to 40th in the country, as she has a team-leading 33 wins to just 9 losses this season. By moving up in the rankings, the Sarajevo, Bosnia, native now should be among those to qualify for the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships held in Athens, Ga.
In doubles, sophomore Ana Cetnik and Tweedie-Yates moved into the top-30 in the nation as they are now 29th. The duo has won 13-of-their-last-14 matches to post an overall mark of 19-2 on the year.
The Frogs, who are 20-4 this season, will now wait for the NCAA selection show that will take place on Wednesday, May 4, between 4:30 and 5 p.m. (CDT) on ESPNEWS. Individuals chosen for the singles and doubles championships will be announced on May 5 by 5 p.m. on the NCAA's Web site.
First- and second-round team competition takes place on May 13-15 at 16 campus sites that have yet to be determined. The 16 teams advancing past the first and second rounds travel to Athens, Ga., to finish the remainder of the tournament over May 19-22. The NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships begin May 23 and conclude May 28.
