After dropping the doubles point, Cincinnati rallied to defeat Marquette, 4-2, in the consolation round of the Conference USA Women's Tennis Championship on Friday at Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. The Bearcats will now face Charlotte later today beginning at 6 p.m. Marquette concludes its tournament run with a 13th-place tie.
Marquette picked up doubles wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 as Golden Eagle teams Francina Bonnelly and Andrea Bukacek defeated Cristina Reyes and Madison Reasoner, 8-5, and Erin Watkins and Elsemieke Dokter beat the Cincinnati's sister duo of Jill and Julie Klauck, 8-1. The Bearcats; however, pulled off an 8-1 win at No. 1 as Samantha Liu and Hannah Hinton beat Cominika Dabrowski and Maria Calberto.
The final four spots for the Bearcats earned singles wins en route to advancing the squad to the second round of the consolation bracket on Friday. Julie Klauck defeated Dabrowski, 6-0, 6-3, while teammate Lindsay Brown beat Bukacek, 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 5 and 6 spots, respectively. After Jill Klauck won at No. 3, defeating Watkins, 6-1, 6-0, the fate of the match rested on seeds one and four. Hinton dropped her first set, 5-7, but rallied to defeat Bonnelly, 5-7, 6-2, 6-2.
