COLORADO SPRINGS -- TCU senior Helena Besovic was named Mountain West Conference tennis player of the week the league office announced on Wednesday evening. For Besovic, it is her first honor of the season.

A senior from Sarajevo, Bosnia, Besovic was unbeaten last week, going 3-0 at No. 2 singles and 3-0 at No. 1 doubles, as she helped the Horned Frogs win the MWC regular-season championship. She defeated No. 92 Iva Gersic (4-6, 6-4, [10-2]) of 52nd-ranked New Mexico, Nikol Dimitrova (6-2, 7-5) of 45th-ranked UNLV and Alesya Vidov (6-1, 6-1) of 32nd-ranked San Diego State to bring her win streak to 15 straight matches. She teamed with Ana Cetnik to post a 3-0 mark in doubles play as the duo has won six straight matches. The senior finished the 2006 conference season undefeated in singles and doubles.

Besovic is one of two players in TCU history to hold three ITA rankings at one time. Currently, she is ranked 27th in singles play with a 19-3 spring record. When paired with freshman Anna Sydorska, she garners the No. 15 ranking. She holds the No. 18 spot when teamed with junior Ana Cetnik.
