Women's tennis grabs No. 16 spot in ITA polls

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU women's tennis team moved up four spots in this week's Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) polls to take over the No. 16 spot. The Frogs are fresh off a 7-0 victory over No. 32 San Diego State on Saturday to clinch the Mountain West Conference regular-season title.

The Frogs (17-6 overall, 8-0 MWC) have won six straight matches and 11 of their last 12. It is the ninth time this season TCU has cracked the Top 20.

Sophomore Nicole Leimbach is ranked 15th in the singles poll. Hailing from Colorado Springs, Colo., Leimbach has posted 13 wins this spring.

Senior Helena Besovic moved up six spots to take over the No. 27 ranking. The Sarajevo, Bosnia, product has won 15-straight matches to improve to 19-3 on the spring season. Besovic also garners the No. 15 slot in doubles play when paired with freshman Anna Sydorska and No. 18 when teamed with junior Anna Cetnik.

Sydorska is ranked 86th in singles play and Cetnik holds the No. 39 spot in doubles alongside junior Karine Ionesco.

TCU returns to action on Thursday for a 2 p.m. showdown at UT-Arlington to close out the regular season.

After a short break, the team heads to San Diego, Calif., as the No. 1 seed in the Mountain West Conference Tournament slated to begin on April 26. The Frogs will take on the winner of the No. 8 versus No. 9 seed at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 27.
