FORT WORTH – After opening with seven-straight matches at home, TCU’s women’s tennis team makes its worst road trip of the season Wednesday when it travels to North Texas.
First serve is set for 2 p.m., from UNT’s Waranch Tennis Complex in Denton. The 20th-ranked Horned Frogs are 6-1 on the year and have won three-straight matches. The Mean Green are ranked 47th and are also 6-1 this spring.
TCU has dominated the all-time series between it and its foe from just up Interstate 35, leading the series 32-1. UNT got its first win in the all-time series a year ago, picking up a 4-3 decision in Fort Worth when TCU had a player retire due to injury.
Wednesday’s matchup marks just the third time in 34 meetings that TCU and UNT have met in Denton. From 1982 to 2006, the Mean Green visited Fort Worth in 24-consecutive matchups. TCU last went to Denton in 2008 and claimed a 6-1 win.
Three Frogs are ranked among the ITA’s top-95 players in the singles rankings with senior Olivia Smith leading the way at No. 50. Sophomores Stefanie Tan and Simona Parajova are 54th and 95th, respectively. Millie Nichols and Smith are the nation’s No. 37-ranked doubles duo.
