Feb. 24, 2004
FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU senior Saber Pierce has been named the Conference USA Women's Tennis Player of the Week for the period ending February 22. This is the third time in her career, and the second time this season, that Pierce has claimed the C-USA accolade. She and fellow senior Paty Aburto have both been awarded the honor this season.
Pierce, along with freshman Ana Cetnik, claimed the biggest victory of the season with an 8-6 win over Georgia's Agata Cioroch and Shadisha Robinson, the No. 4 doubles team in the nation. It marked the highest ranked team to be defeated by a TCU doubles team in at least the past three seasons. Pierce also swept No. 68 Natalie Frazier of Georgia, 6-2, 6-4, at the No. 4 spot in singles to improve to 5-2 on the season. Against Baylor, she claimed a 6-7, 6-2, 6-2 victory over Daria Potapova, while also downing the Bears' team of Walter and Corvello, 8-2, in doubles play.
