Tampa, Fla. - Senior Story Tweedie-Yates, who is currently ranked No. 724 in the WTA rankings, won a match today in the main draw at the Tampa professional tournament held at Hillsborough Community College/Tampa Parks facility in Tampa, Fla.

The Horned Frog senior defeated the No. 7 seed in Anna Bastrikova of Russia, 6-4, 6-3. Bastrikova came into the event as the No. 322 ranked player on the WTA tour.

In the qualifying draw, Tweedie-Yates started things off by defeating Lauren Shumate of the United States in the opening round 6-4, 7-6 (5). After defeating a player from the country of Georgia in the second round, Tweedie-Yates topped her former Stanford teammate, Lauren Barnikow to move into the main draw. Barnikow is currently ranked No. 1060 on the tour, but in 2000, she climbed as high as 494th.

Tweedie-Yates and the TCU women's tennis team will begin practice for the spring season on Sunday. The Frogs will open the 2005 season on Feb. 5 at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
