Jan. 8, 2014
FORT WORTH, Texas - Recent TCU women's tennis signee Alexis Pereira captured her third tennis Gold Ball by winning the Girl's 18 doubles 2013 USTA Winter National Championships crown with partner Ena Shibahara.
Pereira and Shibahara won in straight sets all the way through the quarterfinals, before having to go to three sets to take down their opponents in the semi-finals and finals. The duo remains undefeated after winning the championships and currently rides a 12-matching winning streak to go along with back-to-back titles at the winter nationals.
"Both our semi-final and final matches went to three sets, and were our toughest matches of the tournament," Pereira said. "We had to battle hard to win the final, and I'm very proud of the teamwork that Ena and I put forth in those two matches."
Pereira, a five-star recruit from Studio City, Calif., will join the Horned Frogs this coming fall. TCU opens its 2014 spring season on Saturday, Jan. 18 with matches against Syracuse and UT-Arlington at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., respectively.
