Frogs Compete At ASU Thunderbird Invitational

Tempe, Ariz. - The TCU women's tennis team competed in the ASU Thunderbird Invitational today at the Whiteman Tennis Center in Tempe, Ariz. Junior Gloriann Lopez and freshman Kewa Nichols and senior Paige Brown and freshman Andrea Morgado led the Frogs as both pairs won their opening round matches in the doubles main draw. Lopez and Nichols, competing for the first time together for the Frogs, beat Brooke Borisoff and Monica Wiesner of California 8-4 in their opening match. On Saturday, the pair will take on the No. 1 seed in Joslynn Burkett and Wendy Pilecka of Arizona State. Brown and Morgado improved their overall fall record to 8-3 when they beat Elizabeth Exon and Nina Yaftali of Michigan 9-7. The pair will now play Sabrina Cappannolo and Kady Pooler of Arizona State tomorrow morning. In singles competition, Morgado and Nichols each advanced out of the first round of the main draw. Morgado beat Jessica Simosa of Kansas State 6-3, 7-6 (4), while Nichols defeated Vana Thomas of Arizona State 6-3, 6-2. Both players fell in the round of 16 with Morgado losing to Jessica Leitch of Arizona State 6-4, 7-6 (3) and Nichols dropping a straight set match to Kansas State's No. 3 seed, Maria Rosenburg 6-2, 6-2. The second round of the main draw doubles along with the consolation round will begin Saturday's action at 9:30 a.m. Quarterfinals play in both the main and consolation singles draws will get underway at 10:30 a.m. Singles First Round (Main Draw)
