Besovic wins consolation match in ITA National Indoors

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Helena Besovic from the TCU women's tennis team won her round of 16 consolation singles match Friday in Columbus, Ohio, in the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championship. Nicole Leimbach fell in the main draw, as did the doubles team of Besovic and Anna Sydorska.

Besovic, ranked 21st, won in three sets versus Larika Russell from Southern Nazarene 6-2, 4-6, 6-2. She faces No. 15 Kim Coventry from Kentucky on Saturday.

Leimbach was beaten by No. 122-ranked Zuzana Cerna of Baylor in straight sets 6-3, 6-3. It was her first loss of the fall.

Besovic and Sydorska were upended by the No. 3-ranked duo of Iva Gersic and Maja Kovacek from New Mexico by an 8-3 count. It was the first blemish on the Horned Frog tandem's record this year.
