Women's tennis completes first day of ITA Southwest Regional

LUBBOCK, Texas - Two TCU women's tennis doubles teams earned opening-round victories on Friday to highlight the first day of the ITA Southwest Regional in Lubbock, Texas.
The doubles duo of Nina Munch-Soegaard and Kewa Nichols cruised in the round of 64, blanking the North Texas pair of Franca and Moreton, 8-0. The TCU tandem of Idunn Hertzberg and Andrea Morgado also cruised in the opening round, defeating Houston's Starratt and Wasson by a score of 8-1.
Munch-Soegaard and Nichols will meet Davison and Larsson of Texas in the round of 32 on Saturday at 12:30 p.m., while Hertzberg and Morgado will face the No. 2 seeded Baylor duo of Broosova and Zemenova at 1:30 p.m. After a first-round bye, the top-seeded TCU duo of Macall Harkins and Anna Sydorska will face Lamar's Aranda and Kuroda at 12:30 p.m.
Maria Babanova, a freshman from Moscow, Russia, defeated Megan Pritchard of UTEP in the singles qualifying draw by a score of 7-5, 6-3, before falling to Mariaryeri Gutierrez of Lamar in the round of 32, 6-1, 6-0. Babanova will face Shannon MacKenzie of North Texas in the singles consolation draw on Staurday at 9 a.m.
The singles main draw will begin on Saturday, as Harkins, Hertzberg, Munch-Soegaard, Nichols and Sydorska will all be in action.
