Besovic Wins ITA Southwest Regional Singles Title

College Station, Texas - Junior Helena Besovic won her first tournament in TCU Purple and White today when she won the singles title at the ITA Southwest Regional. By making it to the final, the junior qualified for the ITA National Indoor Championships on November 4-7 at the University of Michigan.
In the final, Besovic dropped her first set of the entire tournament when she lost 5-7 to Texas' Kendra Strohm. However, Besovic rebounded to win the next two sets and the match with back-to-back 6-3 wins.
"Helena played very intelligent tennis today," said Assistant Coach Jefferson Hammond. "She understood the strategy that was needed to win the match and executed it perfectly. She never gave up and that's why she is the champion."
In doubles competiton, Besovic and senior Karla Mancinas advanced to the final, but the pair fell to Daniello Covello and Zuzana Cerna of Baylor 8-5. In the semifinals, Besovic and Mancinas moved on when they topped their teammates, senior Story Tweedie-Yates and freshman Kewa Nichols 8-3.
Tweedie-Yates and Besovic will return to action for the Frogs in November at the ITA National Indoor Championships. Other members of the team will close out the fall portion of the schedule on November 5-7 at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational in Tempe, Ariz.
