Oct. 17, 2004
College Station, Texas - The TCU women's tennis team advanced two of its three doubles teams into the quarterfinals today at the ITA Southwest Regional. Junior Helena Besovic led the Frogs as she advanced in the winner's bracket in both singles and doubles play. In the Round of 32 of the singles main draw Besovic topped Klara Zrustova of Baylor 6-4, 6-2 to move on. In her second match of the day, the junior beat No. 120 Amanda Mang 6-1, 6-1. On Monday, she will meet up with Daniela Covello of Baylor. Besovic also teamed with senior Karla Mancinas in doubles action. The pair advanced to the quarterfinals after they topped Kelly Baritot and Courtney Zauft of Texas 8-3. Also in the doubles main draw, senior Story Tweedie-Yates and freshman Kewa Nichols won a thrilling match over Marina Chiarelli and Tiffany Tucker of LSU to advance to the quarterfinals. During the match, the LSU team was able to build a 7-5 advantage with a 30-30 count, but the Horned Frog pair came storming back to win 9-7. Should both doubles pairs win their matches on Monday, they would have to face off against one another in the semifinals.
