TCU women's tennis wraps up play in Denton

DENTON, Texas -- The TCU women's tennis team concluded play at the Mean Green Invitational in Denton, Texas, on Saturday. Melissa Beré won the consolation singles in Flight C with a pair of victories to lead the Horned Frogs' efforts. Beré defeated Austin Mills from Tyler Junior College in three sets in the semifinals, 1-6, 6-1, (10-7), before recording a straight-set victory against Texas-Arlington's Marissa Brown, 6-2, 6-4. Brown was a 6-3, 6-0 winner over TCU's Alexandra Allin in the semis. Lindsay McBride notched her first victory of the season with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph against Deanna Carrillo of Texas Tech. It was one of eight extra singles matches played Saturday. In a couple additional doubles matches, McBride and Gabby Lopez were defeated by an 8-5 count versus Anne Fankam and Katja Kovacic from Texas Tech. Allin and Beré were 8-1 losers to SMU sisters Brooke and Halley Rambally. The Frogs travel to Berkeley, Calif., for their next tournament, the Cal-Nike Invitational.
