Women's tennis advances to second round

FORT WORTH, Texas - In its first opportunity to host the NCAA Regionals, the 16th-ranked TCU women's tennis team capitalized on the chance and stretched its win streak to 11 matches by downing Conference USA Champion Rice 4-0 in the opening round of the 2006 NCAA Tournament. The Frogs return to action on Saturday to take on 18th-ranked Texas at 6 p.m. for the right to advance to the Sweet 16.
"It was good to get a match under our belts," stated TCU head coach Dave Borelli. We have been off for a while and we needed this as we prepare for the Longhorns. I think we are well prepared. We just need to go out, have fun, play our game and focus on ourselves. That is the most important thing."
Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Year Anna Sydorska and sophomore Andrea Morgado clinched the doubles point for the Frogs with an 8-1 triumph over Kimberley Patenaude and Alanna Rodgers. The TCU duo captured All-MWC accolades for the efforts during the regular season.
Senior Helena Besovic, currently ranked 28th in the ITA singles poll, won her 18th-straight match by downing Dao 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2.
TCU captain Gloriann Lopez moved the Frogs within one point of the match victory with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6 over Emily Braid.
Junior Ana Cetnik clinched the match and the ensured a Saturday showdown with the Texas Longhorns by defeating Medeja Egic 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4.
With the win, the Horned Frogs improved to 22-6 overall.
