FORT WORTH, Texas - The 29th-ranked TCU women's tennis team (19-4) defeated 64th-ranked and five seed Tulane (14-12), 4-0, in the second semifinal of the 2002 Conference USA Women's Tennis Championship at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. The win pits the top-seeded Frogs against three seed Marquette into Sunday's final, set for noon.

The Frogs and Green Wave battled for the doubles point as each squad picked up one win and the point came down to the No. 3 match. Katrin Gaber and Karla Mancinas were able to hold on for the 8-4 victory over Lucy Wood and Anneli Axsater to give the Frogs the point. Paty Aburto and Rosa Perez, playing No. 1, won their match against Maria Ivanov and Joyce Bergman, 8-4.

Paty Aburto earned the first singles point for the Frogs with her win against Maria Ivanov at No. 1, 6-2, 6-0. At four singles, Rosa Perez picked up a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Ana Saaibi. Saber Pierce picked up the third point in singles action as she fought back to get the 6-1, 6-7, 6-3 win against Joyce Bergman. All other singles matches were called per conference rules.

TCU will face Marquette in the finals of the 2002 Conference USA Championship. The match is scheduled to begin at noon on Sunday, April 21 on the Bernard J. "Tut" Bartzen Varsity Courts. Five seed Tulane will meet seventh-seeded UAB in the third place match to begin at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday.

Championship action concludes on Sunday, April 21 at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. No admission is charged for the event. Four matches are scheduled for the Sunday session beginning at 9:00 a.m.
