Women's tennis unseats UNLV, 5-2

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The 20th-ranked TCU women's tennis team improved to 7-0 in Mountain West Conference play and clinched at least a share of the regular-season title with a 5-2 victory over 53rd-ranked UNLV on Friday at the UNM Tennis Center. The Frogs (16-6 overall) will play their final conference match of the season on Saturday when they take on No. 33 San Diego State at 10 a.m. (CST)
"I thought it was a really good win," stated TCU head coach Dave Borelli. "They are a lot better than their ranking, but we will take the win. We have one more (match) tomorrow and we have to get ready for that."
Coming off an 8-3 victory over the third-ranked doubles team on Thursday, senior Helena Besovic and junior Ana Cetnik continued their winning ways with an 8-3 triumph over Elena Gantcheva and Sharon Marin at No. 1 to clinch the doubles point. Ranked 26th in the ITA doubles poll, the TCU duo has prevailed in five-straight matches.
33rd-ranked Besovic continues to roll in singles, picking up her 18th victory of the spring with a 6-2, 7-5 win at No. 2 over Dimitrova.
Cetnik, ranked 119th in the singles poll, extended her win streak to seven matches with 6-2, 6-1 decision at No. 4 versus Treber.
After falling into a 5-2 deficit in the opening set to Smith, Nichols battled her way to a 7-6(3), 7-5 victory at No. 5. The sophomore from Austin, Texas, has won four of her last five matches.
Senior Gloriann Lopez won for the seventh time in eight matches with a 4-6, 7-5, (10-8) victory at No. 6 over Linda Tempelfelde.
