Women's tennis blanks Colorado State, 7-0
April 13, 2007 ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The No. 35 TCU women's tennis team swept Colorado State 7-0 on Friday at the Lobo Tennis Club in the Frogs' first of three conference contests this weekend. The win improved the women to 14-8 overall and 5-1 in MWC play, while dropping the Rams to 7-11 on the season and 1-7 in the conference.
"I was very happy with everyone's attitude and performance today," said TCU head coach Jefferson Hammond. "We played excellent tennis and we're really starting to gel as we head into the final part of the season."
The TCU duo of Andrea Morgado and Karine Ionesco started action with an 8-2 victory over Rui Xu and Sarah Seltsam of Colorado State at the No. 3 position. After a TCU loss at the No. 1 slot, Ana Cetnik and Kewa Nichols secured the doubles point for the Frogs with an 8-2 win over Lauren Strasburger and Anette Pohjalainen.
Ionesco led off singles play by defeating Colorado State's Kirsten Stople, 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 6 slot. No. 93 Nina Munch-Soegaard quickly followed to record her team-leading 18th victory of the season over Emily Kirchem by a score of 6-2, 6-1.
Morgado clinched the match for TCU playing at the No. 5 position with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Greer Satherlie.
Nichols pushed her singles winning streak to 10 matches as the junior defeated Pohjalainen, 6-1, 6-3. No. 58 Anna Sydorska followed to get back in the win column with a 6-2, 6-4 defeat of Strasburger at the No. 2 spot.
No. 43 Cetnik closed the match with 4-6, 6-4, 1-0(4) victory over Hilary Tyler to notch her eighth consecutive singles victory.
