Women's Tennis Routs South Alabama, 5-2

FORT WORTH, Texas - The 29th-ranked TCU women's tennis team wrapped up its 2004 home season with a near-perfect 11-1 mark as the squad posted a 5-2 victory over No. 52 South Alabama on Tuesday afternoon at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. The win is the team's 12th in a row, and gives the Frogs an overall record of 14-6, 1-1 C-USA. The Jaguars fall to an even 9-9 with the loss. The match was the final home contest for TCU seniors Paty Aburto, Saber Pierce and Rebecca Reynolds.
Senior Saber Pierce and freshman Ana Cetnik topped Katarina Palenikova and Catherine Perkins, 8-3, at No. 1, while senior Paty Aburto and junior Karla Mancinas defeated Klara Jarova and Andrea Kurekova at two, 8-4, to give the Frogs the doubles point. USA was able to avoid the sweep with a 9-7 victory at No. 3 by Marlieke Jager and Dominika Nemcovicova over junior Paige Brown and sophomore Gloriann Lopez.
Pierce and Lopez were the only two TCU players able to finish their singles matches in straight sets as Pierce shut down Palenikova, 6-1, 6-0 at three, and Lopez, playing No. 6, earned a 6-1, 6-3 victory against Kurekova. Cetnik's win at four over Ana Rupic (6-2, 2-6, 6-4) clinched the win for the Frogs, while Aburto, ranked No. 48 in the nation, scored the final point for TCU with her 6-1, 4-6, 6-0 victory versus Nemcovicova.

TCU concludes the regular season at UT-Arlington on Wednesday, April 7 at 2:00 p.m. The 2004 Conference USA Championship will be held April 15-18 in Louisville, Ky. and is hosted by the University of Louisville.
