Women's Tennis Drops 4-3 Battle at Oklahoma

NORMAN, Okla. - The 51st-ranked TCU women's tennis team lost its second straight 4-3 match at Oklahoma's Headington Family Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon. The Frogs fall to 7-8 over, while OU improves to 13-3 on the season.
Oklahoma jumped out to an early lead sweeping TCU in doubles. OU's 49th-ranked pair of Anda Perianu and Heather Saluri took an 8-4 victory over TCU's 51st-ranked duo of junior Paty Aburto and senior Rosa Perez. The Sooner duo of Jessica Braver and Melissa Mendieta beat sophomore Ivonne Andrade and senior Brenna Shackelford at the third doubles slot, 9-7, to clinch the point. At no. 2, Annette Bryntesson and Bethany Griffin completed the OU sweep outlasting sophomore Karla Mancinas and junior Saber Pierce, 9-7.
In singles, Pierce claimed the Horned Frogs' first point with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Saluri at no. 3 while OU's Griffin put the Sooners back up by one with a 6-1, 7-5 victory against freshman Gloriann Lopez at no. 4. Perez evened the team score at 2-2 with a straight-set win over Bryntesson at no. 2.
Freshman Iris Jaklin beat Braver in three sets at no. 6, while OU's 76th-ranked Perianu claimed a three-set decision over 89th-ranked Aburto to knot the team score at three. Mendieta won six consecutive points after falling behind 4-1 in a third-set tiebreaker against Mancinas to win at no. 5 singles, 5-7, 6-4, 7-6, and clinch the match for OU.
The Frogs are now home for a pair of back-to-back matches on April 4 and 5 when they host South Alabama and Rice to close out the home season. The team will finish the regular season on April 8 with a match at SMU.
