TCU women cruise past No. 58 New Mexico, 6-1

FORT WORTH, Texas - The No. 41 TCU women's tennis team opened conference play on Thursday night with a 6-1 victory over No. 58 New Mexico at the Friedman Tennis Center's indoor courts. The win improved the Horned Frogs to 10-7 on the season, while dropping the Lobos to 7-7 overall.
"We came out strong in the doubles and set the tone for the rest of the match," said TCU assistant coach Colin Foster. "I don't think we played our best tennis in singles, but we competed well across the board and were able to pull out the win. This will be a great wave of momentum for this weekend's matches."
Anna Sydorska and Nina Munch-Soegaard teamed up at No. 1 doubles to defeat New Mexico's Lucy Scott and Sandra Zmak, 8-2. With the doubles point even at one, the duo of Ana Cetnik and Andrea Morgado pulled out an 8-5 victory over Jennifer Ryba and Ola Abou-Zekry to capture the doubles point for the Frogs.
Morgado quickly put TCU up 2-0 with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Nora Quintel at the No. 5 position, while No. 84 Munch-Soegaard followed with a defeat of Zmak, 6-2, 4-6, 6-2. With the match score at 3-1 in favor of TCU, No. 41 Cetnik clinched the win for the Frogs with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 victory over Mackenzie White at the No. 3 slot.
Kewa Nichols won her fifth consecutive match to put the Frogs up 5-1 as the junior defeated Scott, 6-3, 7-6(3). No. 54 Sydorska rounded out the evening with a 6-7(6), 6-3, 10-2 victory over No. 120 Abou-Zekry.
The women will return to action on Saturday at 10 a.m., as they will play host to No. 74 San Diego State.
