No. 22 TCU grounds Air Force, 7-0

FORT WORTH, Texas - The No. 22 TCU women's tennis team improved to 2-0 in Mountain West Conference play by defeating Air Force 7-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
"I am really pleased with the focus the kids are showing in these matches," stated TCU head coach Dave Borelli. "Ever since spring break, I have just sensed a different team. I feel that they really want to prove themselves and their confidence and attitude is really at a high."
TCU's confidence and attitude was on display from start to finish. Senior Helena Besovic and junior Ana Cetnik picked up the first win of the afternoon with an 8-1 victory over Air Force's Kat Bushey and Christine Abayan. When paired, Besovic and Cetnik garner the No. 59 ranking in the ITA polls for doubles play.
Junior Karine Ionesco and senior Gloriann Lopez clinched the doubles point for TCU with an 8-4 victory versus Erika Shortridge and Lauren Wilson at court No. 3. The Frogs made it three-for-three in doubles after sophomore Andrea Morgado and freshman Anna Sydorska downed Meghan Kiser and Kelly Morgan 8-2 at No. 2.
Besovic, ranked 35th in the ITA singles poll, upped her 2006 record to 11-3 after dismantling Wilson 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2. Nichols followed with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Shortridge at No. 4.
TCU clinched its second-straight Mountain West Conference victory after No. 11 Leimbach defeated Bushey 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1.
Lopez recorded her second victory of the afternoon with a 6-4, 6-1 triumph on court No. 5 over Air Force's Morgan. Cetnik posted a 6-0, 6-3 victory at No. 3 over Abayan to close out her afternoon with a 2-0 record.
Ionesco tallied the final win for the Frogs by a score of 6-4, 6-4 over Kiser.
With the win, TCU improved to 10-5 overall. The Frogs will play their final match of the weekend on Sunday against Colorado State. Match time is set for 10 a.m.
