TCU women's tennis dominates in MWC debut

FORT WORTH, Texas - In the first-ever Mountain West Conference match played at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center, the No. 22 TCU women's tennis team downed Wyoming 7-0 to improve to 9-5 on the season and 1-0 in MWC play. TCU dominated from the start, winning all three doubles matches. Junior Ana Cetnik and sophomore Andrea Morgado posted an 8-0 win over Patricia Chien and Corina Lazar at No. 2. Sophomores Nicole Leimbach and Kewa Nichols followed with an 8-1 victory at No. 3 to clinch the doubles point for the Frogs. The No. 11 doubles tandem of senior Helena Besovic and freshman Anna Sydorska recorded an 8-2 victory at No. 1 over Andrea House and Karolina Rowinski to complete the sweep. Nichols gave the Frogs a commanding 2-0 lead after defeating Nelson 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3. TCU moved within a point of clinching the match when Morgado downed Michelle Brown 6-3, 6-0 at No. 6. A native Caracas, Venezuela, Morgado is 3-2 in singles play. Senior Gloriann Lopez clinched the match for the Horned Frogs with a 6-0, 6-0 triumph over House at No. 4. Junior Karine Ionesco added a win to her 2006 wins total with a 6-1, 6-3 decision versus Lazar. Leimbach, currently ranked 11th in the ITA single polls, defeated Rowinski 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1. No. 93 Sydorska finished off the match with a 6-1, 3-6, (10-7) victory at No. 2 over Chien. With the win, TCU improved to 9-5 on the season and 1-0 in Mountain West Conference play. The team returns to action on Saturday versus Air Force. Match time is set for 2 p.m.
