March 21, 2004
FORT WORTH, Texas - The 40th-ranked TCU women's tennis team earned its second shut out in as many days as the squad defeated No. 69 Oklahoma State, 4-0, on Sunday afternoon at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. After the Frogs swept all six completed matches and garnered the necessary four points to claim the victory, the match was called. TCU's record now stands at 9-6 overall, while OSU falls to 5-6.
For the fifth time this season, the Frogs swept the doubles matches to take the first point of the day. The No. 3 tandem of junior Paige Brown and sophomore Gloriann Lopez started things with an 8-1 victory over Lauren Simmons and Jennifer Poskitt. A pair of 8-4 wins by senior Saber Pierce and Ana Cetnik over Katya Kolodynska and Jana Karaskova at No. 1, and senior Paty Aburto and junior Karla Mancinas against Ines Furtmayr and Zana Masnic at No. 2 completed the sweep.
Pierce made short work of Furtmayr at three singles with her 6-4, 6-1 victory en route to a team-best twelfth win of the spring. Playing No. 6 singles for only the third time this year Brown dispatched Poskitt, 6-1, 6-3. The Frogs clinched the win with Chay's 6-2, 6-2 win over Karaskova. The other three matches were not completed.
