No. 37 TCU falls to No. 5 California, 6-1
March 17, 2007 BERKELEY, Calif. - The No. 37 TCU women's tennis team concluded its six-match road slate with a 6-1 loss to No. 5 California on Saturday at the Hellman Tennis Center. The loss dropped the women to 7-7 overall, while improving California to 13-3 on the season.
"I was very happy with the way we played in doubles," said TCU head coach Jefferson Hammond. "Ana (Cetnik) and Anna (Sydorksa) played smart and played together to defeat the No. 3 duo in the nation."
With a win by default at doubles No. 3, California clinched the doubles point at court No. 2, as Nina Henkel and Marion Ravelojaona defeated Nina Munch-Soegaard and Kewa Nichols, 8-6. The highlight of the afternoon for TCU came when the No. 7 duo of Ana Cetnik and Anna Sydorska downed California's No. 3 duo of Susie Babos and Zsuzsanna Foder, 8-5.
No. 16 Henkel started singles play with a 6-1, 6-1 defeat of No. 37 Cetnik, to put the Golden Bears up 3-0. No. 84 Munch-Soegaard fell to No. 25 Fodor in the No. 2 slot, 6-2, 6-1, which clinched the match for California. The only TCU win came from Nichols, who defeated Ravelojaona, 6-3, 1-1, ret.
The women will return home to face Kansas State at 6 p.m. on Monday at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
