Women's Tennis Loses 4-3 Heartbreaker to South Alabama

FORT WORTH, Texas - The 31st-ranked TCU women's tennis team dropped a tough 4-3 match to South Alabama on Tuesday afternoon. The deciding match-up came at No. 2 singles between 96th-ranked Katrin Gaber and 101st-ranked Josien Boverhof. The duo played the full three sets before Boverhof took the 6-4, 5-7, 7-5 victory, and gave South Alabama the win. TCU moves to 10-4, 2-0 C-USA, while the 39th-ranked Jaguars improve to 8-6 for the season.
TCU won the doubles point for the fifth straight match with wins at Nos. 1 and 2. Playing at one doubles, 30th-ranked Paty Aburto and Rosa Perez defeated No. 42 Josien Boverhof and Nienke Scheltens, 8-5. 51st-ranked Saber Pierce and Leoni Weirich earned a hard-fought 9-7 win over 33rd-ranked Viktoria Stoklasova and Katarina Palenikova.
The Frogs won only two singles matches on the afternoon, the fewest in any match this season. No. 4 Rosa Perez picked up a straight-set 6-1, 6-2 win over Nienke Scheltens, while No. 5 Leoni Weirich fought back to defeat Katarina Palenikova, 6-4, 4-6, 6-1.
The Frogs' homestand continues as they host 28th-ranked Miami on Friday, March 15 at 2:00 p.m. The match will be played at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center on the Bernard J. "Tut" Bartzen Varsity Courts.
