Women's Tennis Defeats Cavaliers, 5-2

FORT WORTH, Texas - The No. 45 TCU women's tennis team (5-6, 0-1 C-USA) earned a 5-2 victory against the Cavaliers of 43rd-ranked Virginia (9-4) on Wednesday afternoon at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. The win is the Frogs' third straight at home this season.
TCU swept the doubles action, led off by the No. 3 pair of junior Paige Brown and sophomore Gloriann Lopez who defeated Dora Bechliwanis and Caroline Hammond, 8-1. Senior Paty Aburto and junior Karla Mancinas, forming the second doubles team, topped Kristen James and Shannon Stough by an 8-4 count to clinch the doubles point. The No. 1 TCU doubles tandem of senior Saber Pierce and freshman Ana Cetnik, currently ranked 33rd, earned an 8-5 victory against Lauren Bruch and Mariko Fritz-Krockow.
The Frogs scored four more points in singles action as they captured wins at Nos. 1, 3, 4 and 6, all in straight sets. Aburto, ranked No. 39 in the March 9 ITA poll, made quick work of Fritz-Krockow, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 1. Pierce claimed her eighth win of the spring with her 6-2, 6-4 victory over Bruch at the third position, while Cetnik was a 6-4, 7-5 winner against Dora Bechliwanis at No. 4. Lopez earned the final point for TCU with her 7-6, 6-2 win over Stough at the sixth spot.
