No. 26 TCU women's tennis defeats No. 42 Texas A&M, 6-1

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The No. 26 TCU women's tennis team recorded a 6-1 victory over No. 42 Texas A&M Thursday evening at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center. With the win, the Frogs improved to 7-3 on the season. Texas A&M's Tiffany Clifford and Marisa Druss claimed the first victory of the day with an 8-6 decision versus TCU's Andrea Morgado and Kewa Nichols. The Frogs quickly responded with wins at doubles No. 1 and No. 2 to claim the doubles point and a 1-0 match lead. Juniors Karine Ionesco and Ana Cetnik paired for an 8-5 win at No. 2. Currently ranked No. 15 in the ITA doubles polls, the tandem of senior Helena Besovic and freshman Anna Sydorska picked up an 8-6 victory over Sarah Foster and Anna Blagodarova to clinch the doubles point. Sophomore Nicole Leimbach pushed the Horned Frogs' advantage to 2-0 with a 6-0, 6-1 win over No. 68 Anna Lubinsky. Ranked No. 12 in the current ITA singles poll, Leimbach is 5-2 on the season in singles play. Texas A&M closed the gap as Clifford posted a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Nichols at No. 6. No. 41 Besovic gave TCU its second two-point advantage of the match with a 6-4, 6-4 decision at No. 2 over Blagodarova. Senior captain Gloriann Lopez clinched the match for the Frogs after dispatching Druss 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5. The Wooldlands, Texas, product sits at 5-1 on the season in singles play.
Cetnik, ranked No. 105 in singles play, added an additional victory to the Horned Frogs' tally with a 6-1, 2-6, 6-4 victory at No. 3 over Foster. No. 84 Sydorska closed out the match by claiming a 6-7(3), 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 4. TCU returns to action on Wednesday when it heads to Charlottesville, Va., to take on Virginia. Match time is schedule for 1 p.m. |
