NORMAN, Okla. - The No. 26 TCU women's tennis team cruised to a 7-0 victory against Oklahoma on Thursday at the Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman, Okla. With the win, the Frogs improved to 5-4 on the season, while the Sooners dropped to 2-4.

"We played on a very windy day and our focus and concentration were excellent," said TCU head coach Jefferson Hammond. "Everyone played within themselves and we rallied together to play like a team today."

The Frogs went with a different lineup in doubles play, as Karine Ionesco and Nina Munch-Soegaard paired together in the No. 3 slot to defeat Oklahoma's Rachael Cox and Chelsea Orr 8-4. Andrea Morgado joined Ana Cetnik in the No. 1 position as the duo downed Gabby Baker and Irina Lykina by a score of 8-4 to clinch the doubles point. The Oklahoma duo of Christi Baxley and Monica Purice were able to salvage the sweep, as they came from being down 4-1 to defeat Kewa Nichols and Anna Sydorska 8-6.

The Frogs got off to a commanding start in singles play by not dropping a single first set. Ionesco led off with a 6-1, 6-3 defeat of Anne Carter and No. 23 Cetnik downed Baxley 6-1, 6-4 to put the Frogs up 3-0. Morgado clinched the match for TCU, as the senior defeated Cox 6-3, 6-3 in the No. 5 slot.

Junior Kewa Nichols was the next winner for the Frogs, downing Orr in straight sets, 6-1, 7-6(4). No. 60 Munch-Soegaard followed with a 6-4, 6-3 defeat of Oklahoma's Lykina. With the match split at 6-2, 4-6, No. 88 Sydorska won the super tie-breaker 11-9, recording her seventh straight singles victory to complete the sweep for TCU.

 

 

The Frogs will return to action on Saturday at 1:30 when they travel to Houston to meet the No. 70 Rice Owls.
