Women's Tennis Earns 5-2 Victory Over Houston

HOUSTON, Texas - The 22nd-ranked TCU women's tennis team earned their first win against a Conference USA opponent as they defeated the Houston Cougars, 5-2, on Sunday afternoon. TCU moves to 8-3 and 1-0 in C-USA play, while Houston falls to 5-3, 2-1 C-USA.
For the second consecutive match, the Frogs swept the doubles point. TCU captured an 8-3 win at No. 1 from 24th-ranked Paty Aburto and Rosa Perez over Sarah Borwell and Jen Baccarani, while Brenna Shackelford and Saber Pierce, playing No. 2 against Jo Keene and Analia Longoni, took home an 8-6 victory. The three doubles duo of Katrin Gaber and Karla Mancinas earned an 8-3 win against Kailey Meisinger and Kandace Ridgeway.
The Frogs picked up wins at Nos. 2, 3, 5 and 6, however 18th-ranked Sarah Borwell defeated No. 89 Paty Aburto, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 1 singles. Each TCU singles winner picked up her victory in straight sets. 134th-ranked Katrin Gaber, playing two singles, topped Jen Baccarani, 6-2, 6-2. TCU's No. 3 player, 108th-ranked Saber Pierce earned her sixth consecutive straight-set win as she defeated Analia Longoni, 6-2, 6-3. At No. 5, Ivonne Andrade handled Kailey Meisinger by a score of 6-1, 6-1, while Karla Mancinas, playing six singles, earned the 6-0, 6-1 win against Kandace Ridgeway.
TCU's next home match will be on March 2 versus UCF beginning at 11:00 a.m. on the Bernard "Tut" Bartzen Varsity Courts at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
