Women's Tennis Wins Third Straight

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU women's tennis team (3-0, 2-0 C-USA) won its third match of the season on Tuesday afternoon at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center topping North Texas, 7-0. The Mean Green's record goes to 2-1 with the loss. In doubles action, junior Saber Pierce and sophomore Karla Mancinas defeated Natalie Clore and Bettina Rettenmaier, 8-5, at no. 1. The senior tandem of Rosa Perez and Brenna Shackelford captured the 8-2 win at no. 3 over Kristin Beedy and Ashley Sammis. Five of the six singles matches were won by TCU in straight sets. Pierce defeated Sandhya Kanury, 6-2, 6-1 at no. 1, while Perez topped Clore at no. 2, 6-1, 6-1. Mancinas won 6-1, 7-5 over Beedy at the fourth spot, and freshman Gloriann Lopez earned a 6-2, 6-3 victory against Benita Bittner at no. 5. Sophomore Ivonne Andrade pulled out a 7-5, 6-3 win at the sixth position over Joosje Bomer. In one other doubles match, Cristin Sammis and Kanury defeated TCU's Rebecca Reynolds and Molly Purdy, 8-3. The next action for the Frogs is Sunday, Feb. 16 when the 45th-ranked Baylor Bears come to the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. The match is scheduled to begin at noon.
